Ben Hanten of Peosta, Iowa, an employee of Mediacom, was the overall winner of the Iowa Heartland SCTE's Cable-Tec games held April 23, 2014 in Marion.  Hanten scored consistently well in each of the games, including having the best score in the drop connector competition.  For his efforts, Ben has the option of being able to attend the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver this summer with expenses covered by the Iowa Heartland Chapter.

Other competition winners were Jeremiah Peters in hardline splicing, Dan Koester in MTDR, Adam Hopkins in meter reading, Marcus Simmons in fiber splicing, and Shawn Stogdill in "Cable Jeopardy".  All of the competitors in this year's games are employed by Mediacom.

Thank you to all the participants who competed, and to the vendors who helped with the games!

Iowa Heartland SCTE Chapter Secretary Dave Fyffe and VP of Communications Curtis Dean attended the SCTE Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC) in Charlotte, North Carolina on April 9th and 10th.
The CLC is an annual gathering of SCTE chapter leaders from across the country.  A wide-range of topics aimed at local chapter development were discussed.  Fyffe, who has been active in the Iowa Heartland chapter for many years, says the CLC provides great guidance on how to better deliver SCTE services and training to members.  "I've been to the CLC several times and each time I learn something new about how we can better serve members," says Fyffe.  It was Dean's first CLC visit and he found it very valuable for his role as VP of Communications.  "I especially enjoyed the session on social media and how it can be used to communicate with members."
